2010 Awarded Grants
The Snapdragon Book Foundation was quite pleased to receive close to 200 grant applications from public, private, and charter schools across the nation in our second year of operation. After much thought and review, grants ranging from $800 to $8,500 have been awarded to the schools below for their exemplary proposals and innovative programs:
Genesis Academy
Phoenix, AZ
Funding provided to finance an after school reading club, Los Literati Book Club.
Ridgewood High School
Norridge, IL
Funding provided for a Teen Literature Symposium to be held on March 19th, 2011. More information is available here.
Whitford Middle School
Beaverton, OR
Funding provided for an excellent summer bookmobile program.
Dorton Elementary
Dorton, KY
Funding was provided for the It’s All About Boys Middle School High Interest reading program.
Hmong College Prep Academy
St. Paul, MN
Funding was provided to procure fiction and nonfiction books to a relatively small library serving a 100% Hmong population.
Excel Academy Charter School
East Boston, MA.
Funding for a DEAR Library Expansion was granted for this top performing school that keeps students engaged in pleasure reading.
Coney Island Prep
Brooklyn, NY
Funding was provided for an ever expanding library serving a very diverse population. These needs were communicated in an outstanding application.
Excel Academy Public Charter School
Washington D.C.
Funding to add books to their early reader’s lending library was provided to the first all girls public school in Washington D.C.
