This September, the Snapdragon Book Foundation is proud to feature Hillandale Elementary School in Durham, NC as our Next Up school.

Media Coordinator Christie Masinick, a Hillandale alum who returned to her elementary school in 2019 with a vision to modernize its library, has worked tirelessly the last several years to transform their book collection. Now, the school is looking to add books that directly support its social-emotional learning program, Character Strong.

The Building Strong Character by Reading Strong Characters project will fill the shelves with books whose stories model respect, responsibility, gratitude, empathy, perseverance, honesty, cooperation, courage, and creativity, giving teachers across more than 30 classrooms the literature they need to bring each character trait to life.

Throughout September, 100% of all donations to Snapdragon will go directly to Hillandale Elementary’s library. Our goal is $2,000 to fully fund their project.
